LOG CABINS - THE BENEFITS: Log cabins are popular for many reasons, especially as a comfortable garden room to sit and relax in but also as a workshop or heavy duty storage shed. On the outside cabins have a chunky look and feel. On the inside, with no internal framework, the clean lines look smarter than the inside of a traditional shed or summerhouse. In addition, the wall logs are thicker than the shiplap cladding used in traditional sheds and summerhouses, which provides better insulation. If you want the option of winter use we recommend floor and roof insulation, which is difficult to fit retrospectively so it needs to be fitted with the cabin. We offer low price insulation packs complete with fixings and instructions. Where available, double glazing also improves the insulation especially if the cabin has a large glazed area. Another significant benefit of log cabins is that you get more wood for your money when compared with a traditional shed or summerhouse or garden office. With no prefabricated wall panels a log cabin requires less production time.

NORDIC SPRUCE: This building is manufactured from 100% Nordic Spruce, the best quality timber used in log cabin construction. Nordic Spruce is grown primarily in the well managed forests of Scandinavia, Siberia and the coldest parts of Northern Europe. The cold climate ensures slow growth. The growth rings are much closer together than trees grown in warmer climates. As a result the timber is heavy and durable with a dense grain pattern. These forests are expertly managed on a sustainable basis so Nordic Spruce is an enviromentally friendly choice.

NATURAL WOOD: First, high grade timber is dried in kilns until it reaches the optimum moisture content, then it is planed smooth and machined into tongued and grooved logs and boards. Next the logs are precisely machined at the ends to ensure a precise fit. Finally, each cabin is carefully packed and wrapped. When you unwrap it the wood is untreated. We recommend treating it only after the cabin has been successfully installed and ideally within a week or two. Treating the logs before fitting may cause the wood to swell up and the logs may not fit together correctly. If you are fitting your cabin in a restricted space where future access will be difficult you can stain the logs during installation by reaching down a few logs at a time as you fit them.

FULLY INTERLOCKING LOG CORNERS: These traditionally made log cabins feature interlocking corner logs. Each wall log is precisely machined and notched out to ensure a strong and weatherproof joint. The first log is laid at the bottom and the rest slot into each other, working upwards one log at a time. No screws or nails are required which makes installation easier and also allows for timber movement. The finished corner assembly is not only immensely strong but also weatherproof and draughtproof. If possible cabins with interlocking logs should be treated after assembly. Treating the logs on site before fitting requires considerable care. If swollen the precision milled joints may not slot together.

MADE TO MEASURE: These log garages are supplied as a single room with double hinged doors. You can add a personnel door and joinery windows to suit your individual requirements. These doors and windows can be positioned wherever you want.

ONE PIECE EPDM ROOF: A tough EPDM rubber membrane is made in one piece to the size of your roof with no joins. It is easily fitted within a few minutes at normal temperatures with no heat required. EPDM rubber is completely inert, UV stable and not affected by extreme temperatures. It never perishes and it will not rot, split, crack or degrade. EPDM rubber lasts for years with little or no maintenance. It has been widely used in flat roofing for over 40 years from Alaska to the Middle East. It is increasingly popular in the UK where it is widely used for re-roofing flat roof garages and extensions. Even in extreme weather conditions EPDM rubber remains flexible and it will stretch to absorb any movement as a timber roof expands and contracts with the seasons.

PRESSURE TREATED FOUNDATION BEAMS: Substantial 3"x3" foundation beams are laid on the base to support the walls. This ensures that the wall logs are not in contact with the ground. The foundation beams are pressure treated for durability. Pressure treatment is a lifetime preservative treatment. A timber floor for workshop use is available as an option.

SIZES - LENGTH AND WIDTH: Sizes are sometimes rounded to the nearest nominal size for ease of reading but the correct external wall sizes are listed alongside the price. The first dimension listed is the width and the second dimension is the length. The width refers to the walls at the front and rear including the main door wall. The length refers to the side walls. The sizes listed are the external wall sizes. These sizes do not include the roof overhang. All sizes are approximate.

HEAVY DUTY TIMBER FLOOR: The optional timber floor features strong 19mm finished thickness tongued and grooved floorboards and strong ex 3"x2" floor joists which are pressure treated for life. The timber floor is designed to fit neatly between the foundation beams. Skirting boards are also included to ensure a neat internal finish.

TRANSLUCENT WOOD STAIN TREATMENT - FACTORY FINISHED: This high quality preservative finish is professionally spray applied in the factory to both sides of the timber. The cabin is treated inside and out in a choice of colours. You can choose one or two of our colours. The doors and windows can be sprayed the same colour as the wall logs and roof or painted a different colour. Treatment of the roof includes the rafters and boards. Microporous woodstains offer superior protection plus greater durability. Microporous woodstains are impervious to water but not to water vapour, which allows the wood to breathe. The appearance of colours and shades may vary between different screens or devices.

PRESSURE TREATED TIMBER: Pressure treated wall logs and roof timbers with a choice of a green or brown finish. The doors and windows can be supplied unpainted or factory finished with a semi opaque microporous paint treatment. Pressure treatment is a lifetime preservative treatment. The preservative is forced deep into the timber under pressure in a vacuum and penetrates below the surface. All other treatments apply a coat of stain to the surface of the timber only. With pressure impregnated timber, the chemicals are permanently bonded to the cell structure of the wood at a molecular level. Tanalith E is a widely used water based version so pressure treated wood is often described as tanalised. Pressure treated wood is almost colourless except for a slight green tint caused by the copper content in the preservative, though if you want a coloured finish you can paint over pressure treated or tanalised wood with a suitable wood preservative in any colour. Please note that whilst no further anti-rot treatment is ever needed, the timber is still subject to seasonal variation when exposed to the elements and so will expand and contract as it gets hot/cold, wet/dry, etc. For this reason, the timber may benefit from periodically applying a good quality waxy wood treatment to help ensure the building stays fully watertight all year round.

MICROPOROUS PRESERVATIVE - DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR: Our quality microporous preservatives are impervious to water but not to water vapour. This allows the wood to breathe. You can order up to 3 separate colours if required. At least two coats are normally required with a further coat at periodic intervals.

Our 3 star preservative is practical and affordable with a choice of 4 colours. It covers around 10 square metres per litre and normally lasts 1-2 years before a further coat is required.

Our 4 star preservative is a high quality preservative which covers around 9 square metres per litre and normally lasts 2-5 years before a further coat is required. It is available with a choice of 12 colours.

Our 5 star preservative is a deluxe high build preservative which can be used to achieve a stunning finish. Each extra coat increases the colour and sheen. It covers around 8 square metres per litre and normally lasts 2-5 years before a further coat is required. It is available with a choice of 12 colours.

Based on average coverage five litres of our 4 star preservative is enough for two coats on an 8'x10' shed or an 8'x8' log cabin. Ten litres is enough for three coats on a 10'x16' shed or a 12'x10' log cabin. Coverage varies according to the smoothness of the surface and the porosity of the timber. We recommend that you order more than you need to be sure that you have easily enough. All of these preservatives are safe for use with children and pets. These microporous preservatives are only available when you purchase a Summer garden building or if you purchased a Summer building in the past. WATERPROOF COLOUR SEAL - DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR: This advanced water-based microprous timber treatment uses the latest high-tech nanotechnology to create a long-lasting waterproof wood coating that is environmentally friendly. It is suitable for use on all softwood and hardwood products and is especially recommended for use on pressure treated timber, including sheds, summerhouses, gazebos, fencing and garden furniture. This timber treatment will colour, protect and enhance your exterior wood. It contains a mould inhibitor to protect the coating and can be used on all outside and inside timber. It gives a traditional matt wood stain finish in a range of natural colours. It can easily be applied by sprayer, brush or roller. It is recommended that the second coat is applied as soon as the first coat is touch dry. We advise for ultimate performance the timber has a wood preservative pre-treatment. For the first treatment, two coats are recommended and will give a traditional wood stain finish that is long lasting. A further coat is recommended every 2-5 years. One litre covers approximately 10-12 square metres. Coverage varies according to the smoothness of the surface and the porosity of the timber. On average five litres covers a 12x8 shed with two coats and ten litres covers a 10x20 with three coats. It is recommended that 2 coats be applied. We recommend that you order more than you need to be sure that you have easily enough. The appearance of colours and shades may vary between different screens or devices. WATERPROOF CLEAR SEAL - DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR: Our hardwearing clear seal is ideal as a clear varnish for bare timber or as a waterproof top coat for painted wood and pressure treated timber. It is also ideal as a waterproof floor varnish, especially the polyurethane clear seal. The smooth and shiny finished surface is waterproof and easy to clean. Available in a choice of acrylic or polyurethane, these colourless water based coatings are almost odourless and recommended for smooth planed timber only. One coat is normally required as a sealing top coat on painted or treated timber. A minimum of two coats are normally required on untreated wood. Up to three coats may be required for floors. An unsealed timber floor quickly shows muddy boot marks and other dirt. For best results a floor should be treated at the earliest opportunity while the timber is new and clean. On average five litres of our 5 star clear seal is enough for three coats on a 12'x12' floor, two coats on the walls of an 8'x8' log cabin or one coat on the walls of a 12'x16' log cabin. ROOF INSULATION: The roof insulation is 50mm thick polyurethane foam with reflective silver alloy laminate facings on both sides. It is certified by the British Board of Agrement. The roof insulation is laid over the roof boards and below the roof covering. This ensures that the internal appearance is unchanged with attractive tongued and grooved boards. No internal lining boards are required. The kit features rigid foam boards which are lightweight and easy to install. The kit also includes decking boards which are laid over the insulation to provide a solid surface suitable for laying roofing felt or EPDM, even at a low pitch. Detailed instructions are supplied. Adding roof insulation can increase the ridge height by approximately 50mm which may be of critical importance if you need to keep the overall height below 2.5m for planning purposes.

INTERNAL PARTITIONS: Internal partitions can be positioned almost anywhere to suit your individual requirements. It is best to specify the exact position in advance so that the internal walls are built into the external walls for maximum stability and strength. If required, internal doors can be placed in a partition. It is less important to specify the internal door position in advance although it is easier to install if the door opening is pre-cut.

BURGLAR ALARM: This simple and effective battery operated burglar alarm kit is easy to install in any wooden garden building. The main panel features a digital keypad and a powerful built-in siren. Two pre-wired door contacts are also included complete with a length of cable which plugs into the main panel. A 9 volt PP3 alkaline battery is required, which is not supplied with the kit. The alarm is easy to set using the digital keypad. A delay allows plenty of time to enter or leave the building after setting the alarm. Once the alarm has been armed it will be triggered by opening the door or tampering with the wiring. When the alarm is activated the siren emits a powerful and unpleasant sound to deter intruders.

SOLAR POWERED LIGHTS: These ingenious and affordable solar powered lights are easy to install with no mains wiring and they cost nothing to run. During the day the externally mounted solar panel converts daylight into electricity and recharges the batteries. The solar panel is weatherproof and suitable for outside use. It is normally positioned high on the walls of your Lugarde log cabin or on the roof. Our solar internal lights solve the problem of seeing inside your Lugarde log cabin at night. Our solar security lights illuminate the approach to your Lugarde log cabin at night and may also deter burglars. After dusk the passive infra red movement detector switches itself on when it detects movement. The more expensive solar lights are brighter and stay on for longer.

WPC COMPOSITE DECKING KITS: This superb quality WPC wood plastic composite decking closely resembles real wood, with the same look and feel. However, it is virtually maintenance free and it will never rot. At a glance it is difficult to tell the difference between this composite material and real timber decking with a stained finish. Furthermore, the similarities are not skin deep like a thin veneer. The realistic finish has a fibrous surface which looks similar to the grain of real wood. This synthetic composite is also heavier and stronger than real wood. The strength, durability and lack of maintenance make this superb decking a popular choice with pensioners and discerning commercial buyers such as care homes. Occasional cleaning with soapy water normally restores the original appearance. If any dirt or stains become ingrained after prolonged neglect even the most stubborn marks can be cleaned with a pressure washer.

Our WPC composite decking is a revolutionary material which provides all the benefits of real wood without the maintenance. It can be left outside uncovered all year round. Unlike real wood this synthetic wood is a weatherproof material with no knots, splinters, machining marks or other imperfections. It will never develop splits or shakes and no sap will ever ooze out of it. Our wood plastic composite is an equal mixture of real wood and recycled plastic. Even the wood is a mixture of sawdust and unusable offcuts, so it is the ultimate environmentally friendly alternative to wood. The colour pigments are mixed in before the powdered composite is moulded into shape, so the colour runs all the way through the finished product. The boards are completely impervious to water. The boards can be sawn, drilled and screwed, just like real wood. You can fix it with standard woodscrews. Being heavier and denser than real wood, screw fixings are actually stronger in composite boards.
